The Rescued Rug

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOlive arrived at The Cottage one morning with a story of a large amount of rug wool at one of the op shops in Gosford.  I went off the next day to have a look, not really sure what to expect.  I found a glorious range of colours of rug wool at the princely sum of 50 cents a ball – 100% pure wool.

The wool comes from Holland and was produced to be used with a patent machine for making rugs.

I did a couple of test pieces to see what size needles would work best with the wool and then set off to produce my own knitted rug.  A few less stitches would have allowed a  longer rug, which may have been a better shape and allowed me to use a little more of the wool.  However, I’m really pleased with the colourful result – which cost me just over $20 to produce and that I managed to rescue and use this lovely wool.  By Debbie.
