Above is a tencel single handspun by Faye. Tencel is a manmade fibre regenerated from wood cellulose. Tencel is one of the most environmentally friendly regenerated fibres as the trees used are grown sustainably. It is obtained from eucalyptus trees that are grown on farms—no old growth forests, genetic manipulation, irrigation, or pesticides are used. These forests and the pulp produced for Tencel have earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification that the products come from socially and environmentally responsible forests.
Faye loves spinning tencel because of the silky feel and the shine it gives to her weaving. The ball of wool is tencel plied with wool, which she then wove into this lovely scarf. Faye is a very prolific weaver but up until now has done all plain weaving, using colour or yarn thickness to create different scarves and wraps. This is Faye’s first pattern and I’m sure this will be the start of something big.
