Sue’s Quilt

I made this quilt for my mother in memory of our Central Australia trip. The patterns for the animals and some of the fabric were purchased in Alice Springs. Techniques include appliqué with machined blanket stitch and hand painting. I free motion quilted gum leaves on the plain blocks.  By Sue N.

Our Five Seconds of Fame

Several years ago Eileen, our then president, was interviewed for the ‘Embroidery and Cross Stitch’ magazine.  A three page article was printed all about our guild and there were photos of our lovely ladies that quilt on a Wednesday.  I recognize pretty much everyone there so nearly everyone is still a current member.  Eileen found the article recently when she was browsing through some of her magazine collection.

Barbara’s Quilt

Barbara made this gorgeous quilt for her grandson, Finn.  He is going to love it.  I can’t imagine any boy who wouldn’t like such a great present from his grandma.  I love gifts that you can use every day as it is a constant reminder of the person who gave it to you.

Australasian Quilt Convention

Australasian Quilt Convention

This year’s convention will be held in Melbourne from Thursday, 20th April to Sunday, 23rd April, daily from 10am until 4.30pm.  This is sure to be an amazing event packed with classes run by international tutors, social events so you can network with like-minded people, an awesome selection of quilts on display from all around the world, and of course a most satisfying specialized retail experience.  If you’re up for a trip to Melbourne, then definitely add this one to your diary.  Should be fantastic.

Lovely Lilies

The workshop on Lovely Lilies was well-attended by seven members who thoroughly enjoyed learning this new skill. We chose a cream background and 3 other colours. Each square can be set to create a different effect.

The idea is to learn the technique in preparation for making a Collaborative Quilt for the Sydney Quilt Show. Bev Robertson and Noelene Fraser are co-ordinating the project.

Each of the 7 members have been asked to make a sample at home using navy as a background.
