Charlotte Spinning

Charlotte has only just started spinning and has taken to it like a duck to water.  In the first photo Charlotte is spinning a wool single, and in the second she is plying her single with some fine commercial wool. Awesome first spinning.

Clare’s Mittens

Clare's Mittens Clare's Mittens Clares Mittens

Claire has hand knitted these mittens for her mother for Christmas. Her mother lives in Iowa and it can be extremely cold during the festive season.  The wool is super wash wool and Claire hand dyed it herself using black beans.  The pattern is called “Easy Mittens with Thrums” on Ravelry.  The thrums are made with Alpaca fibre.  Some of the Wednesday night ladies tried on the finished mitten and it felt like your hand was floating on a warm feather cloud.  Rather delectable!!

Clare’s ‘Sophie’s Universe’

Sophie's Universe
This is in the process of being made by our new member Clare.  Clare comes along on Wednesday nights and has very creative talents.  The beginning of this piece is round and goes into the square.  It is done in four colours.  The pattern is 26 rounds. Watch this space for the finished item. Beautiful work Clare.  By Lyn A.

A Great Day at the Steiner Fair

This year’s Central Coast Steiner School Fair was a great day as usual. We all had a lovely time demonstrating and chatting to all the friendly people there. We demonstrated carding, spinning, embroidery and the weaving was especially prominent this year, with Julie on Lyn’s Saori loom, and Gay on the Sample-it. The Saori loom always gathers a crowd. Some of the children took a length of handspun wool that Naomi had spun for them, and they wove it themselves using the Sample-it loom with Gay showing them what to do. We had lovely displays outside in the sunshine which really brought out all the colours in our beautiful handmade items.
